While the cubicles aren’t five-star the scene you see while washing your hands is paradise.

Holidaymakers spend a penny just to take in the breathtaking view of the sparkling blue Aegean Sea watching the boats come and go.

The lavatory belongs to Bourtzi Cafe in the heart of the Greek island Skiathos.

The port town itself is one of the most scenic on the island with the cafe high on a peninsula next to a 13th-century fortress. The entrance to the restroom is down a cobbled path that follows a rocky beach below.

On a clear day you can see 18miles out to sea and three uninhabited islands Tsougria big and small and Maragkos.

One customer said:

“Normally you can’t get out of toilets quick enough but in this one you want to stop and take a picture”.

Another said:

“I didn’t even need the loo I came down just for the view. It’s better than the Shangi-La in Hong Kong but you don’t have to be a millionaire to come here. They say the best things in life are free.”

Owners Dimitris Rizos and Dimitris Koliakos pulled the wall down in front of the toilet block in 2014 as part of their renovations when they took over.

Mr Rizos said:

“The toilets were always there but were in a terrible condition so we knocked down the wall to reveal the view. Now everyday people compliment us for the view. Some ask if they can have a drink or food down there. There’s been a proposal too but others have asked if we can put a mirror up instead.”

Owner of nearby five-star hotel Kassandra Bay Resort said:

“the loo with a view” has become one of the most popular spots to visit on the island”.

Efi Kalaitzidis said:

“It’s interesting to think that there are toilets overlooking such a spectacular view. It’s still a block of toilets but it’s great because of the view.”

Skiathos is part of the Sporades group of islands with 100 golden beaches and voted in the top ten Greek islands in the 2015 Travellers Choice by Trip Advisor.

  1. I think you have a good post about the island, but it seems better if you had more photos of this beautiful place, since photos, somehow, reflect to us positively and by seeing more of the beauty of this wonderful destination, will make us (the travelers) want to visit that place.

    1. Hi Tania and thanks for visiting. You are absolutely right. I made a brief presentation on this “special feature” of the island. I am planning a review for Skiathos Island soon since, in my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful places to visit and combines beautiful beaches, forests and remarkable scenery.

Stay tuned and soon you will read my full review, with suggestions on things to do on Skiathos Island.

      Thanks again
