The 10th International Marathon – Alexander The Great
The 10th International Marathon – Alexander The Great will be held on Sunday April 5, 2015 following the course of the route Pella-Thessaloniki which unites the ancient with the contemporary capital of Macedonia.
The Marathon course is of low difficulty. Its main characteristics are the small height variation and the long straight stretch that makes it ideal for great records.
In addition to the Marathon, Road Races of Health and Power Walking will also take place (5.000m and 10.000m). These races are extremely successful and embraced by many runners. Furthermore, there will be the 1.000m Road Race of Primary School Students which will convey the message of environmental offer. Apart from the races, several parallel events will also take place.
The ceremony of the Alexander Marathon Flame lightening will be held on Saturday April 4, 2015 at the archaeological site of Pella. Afterwards, the torch relay of the Marathon Flame will run the marathon course and will reach the end at the White Tower of Thessaloniki.
The International Marathon Alexander The Great is the second greatest and the second most popular international event in Greece and the greatest in Northern Greece recognised for its value by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, the European Athletics Association, the International Association of Athletics Federations and by the (Greek) National Federation of Classic Sports – SEGAS.
